Gala concert with the music by Bojan Adamič on May 22, 2024 in Tirana, Albania

On May 22, 2024, a concert featuring the music by Bojan Adamič was held at the RTSH – Albanian Radio and Television studio in Tirana, Albania. The concert was also part of the official visit of the President of Slovenia, H.E. Nataša Pirc Musar in Albania.

Present were also the President of Albania, H.E. Bajram Began, the Ambassador of Slovenia in Tirana, H.E. Peter Japelj, numerous musicians from Albania, Alenka Adamič, daughter of Bojan Adamič, and Gregor Makuc, Adamič’s grandson.

At this occasion, prof. Vasil Tole, Vice President of the Albanian Academy of Sciences, and Alenka Adamič, in two separate speeches, described Adamič’s influence on Albanian music in 1947 and later.

The RTSH Symphony Orchestra was led by Slovenian conductor Mr. Simon Krečič, and the program included Adamič’s Spring Longing from the film Vesna and the first performance (premiere) of a piece for symphony orchestra and piano entitled Sonatina, which Adamič composed in September 1947 in Tirana.

Due to the small, renovated and acoustic RTSH studio, which had place for only 40 guests in addition to the orchestra members, the atmosphere was extremely pleasant.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in this evening, especially His Excellency Peter Japelj, who initiated the concert evening. The concert was also reported in this media outlet.

This concert marked the end of Adamič’s activities in Albania, They all presented cultural cooperation between Yugoslavia and Albania, which Adamič had begun in 1947, when he was sent there as a cultural aid. In Albania, he helped to establish the Radio Tirana Orchestra and sent proposals to his homeland for the deployment of new music teachers that same year.

At the initiative of H.E. Peter Japelj, as part of the celebration of 30 years of diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, activities were launched in 2021 to present this cooperation. Given the important mark that Adamič left with his work in 1947, three important, interesting and high-profile events were organized in Albania in the following years:

On May 4, 2022, exactly 75 years after Adamić’s arrival in Tirana, an international symposium on his life and work was held at the Albanian Academy of Sciences.
On February 8, 2024, on Prešeren Day (Adamič received the Prešeren Award for his contribution to film and entertainment music in 1979), the book Composer Bojan Adamič in Albania, written by Prof. Vasil Tole, with an added chapter by Dr. Darja Koter from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, was presented at the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Tirana.
The third event is the above-mentioned concert on May 22, 2024 at the RTSH studio in Tirana.

In the future, Slovenia plans to translate the book Skladatelj Bojan Adamič v Albania into Slovenian, as the book has so far only been published in Albanian.

The pre-premiere of the documentary film about Adamič’s work in Albania in 1947, was held in Ljubljana on October 10, 2024.
