Pre-premiere of the documentary film “Albanian Sonatina” on October 10, 2024 in Ljubljana

30. 1. 2025

The pre-premiere of the new documentary film Albanian sonatina was held in Ljubljana on October 10, 2024 at the cinema Kinodvor.

The film’s author, Natalija Gorščak, has prepared an interesting documentary, produced by RTV Slovenia, that describes Bojan Adamič’s mission as a cultural help in Albania from May till September 1947. This was the time of the cooperation between Yugoslavia and Albania and the time of the acquaintance between Tito and Enver Hoxha.

The invitation to the pre-premiere of Albanian sonatina, stated: “The story of the documentary tells the story of the stay of the Slovenian composer, conductor, pianist and arranger Bojan Adamič in Albania in 1947. When he arrived in Tirana, he experienced a cultural and civilizational shock, but at the same time he found a great treasure in the local music and folklore. There he also wrote the first Albanian artificial composition, Sonatina, which was played by the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra specifically for the purpose of this documentary.”

Through letters that Adamič wrote to his wife Barbara and a report that he sent to the Ministry of Culture in Belgrade at the end of May 1947, it emerges that he did not teach physical education, as he himself repeatedly mentioned, but rather professionally helped establish both the Radio Tirana orchestra itself and the program. He also participated in theatre performances and much more. At the same time, he had piano concerts in various places around Albania.

With this documentary film, with the book Bojan Adamič in Albania, which was released in February 2024 in Albania, and with the international symposium in May 2022 in Tirana, this period of Bojan Adamič’s life has finally been presented at the highest possible research level, as both the film, the book, and the symposium are based on documents from the Archives of Yugoslavia in Belgrade and handwritten letters sent to his wife Barbara.
